last thoughts on immigration

Studying this topic I thought about part of Americans who block the reform and that the similar difficult process is going on in many European countries. I think the main issue that makes people worry is the fear of losing so called cultural indentity. It is vague and unclear concept. It is easy to feel we lose it, especially since it is so fragile we hardly can sense or verbalize. Because I am not conservative (in its first Latin meaning, "to preserve") I think we shouldn`t care too much about the  preservation of national identity, because it is not something that goes away easily. We can see people from different countries of origins here, they often carry (our new favorite word!) some traits of the culture and country they were not born and raised in. From the other side, the world is changing anyway. No country is able and really willing to close the door for immigrants or refigees. It applies not just to developed countries. During the Middle East uprisings a lot of people flee to the neighbouring countries. A lot of workers come to Russia from former Soviet Union republics. We better take it how it is and provide the immigrants with opportunities to learn the language of the country and become the useful citizens.
